Summer dance training is a great time to keep in shape and improve your technique and artistry, continuing the growth and progress made throughout the year.

Classes: June 6 – July 21

Classes are available for dancers ages 3 years to adult.

Primary (ages 3 – 5)

Must be 3 years old by June 1st

June 14: Storybook Ballet Class (ages 6–7)

Must be 6 years old by June 1st
After a ballet technique class, dancers will learn about a classic storybook ballet through music, story, choreography, and costuming.

Boys' Intro to Ballet (ages 8+)

Intensives: July 11 – 14 & July 18 – 21

SWBT’s Intensives will allow dancers to gain strength, flexibility, and muscle memory in a shorter amount of time, while also improving artistry and technique. Dancers will also gain experience with new dance styles, such as Sevillana (classical Spanish dance) or Luigi Jazz, helping them to become well-rounded dancers. Space is limited.

Level 1 & 2 (ages 8 – 12)

Must be 8 years old by June 1st.

Classes will include: Classical Ballet technique, Modern Ballet, Sevillana (classical Spanish dance).

Levels 3 – 6 (ages 11+)

Classes will include: Classical Ballet technique (including pointe or pre-pointe), Progressing Ballet Technique, Modern Ballet, Sevillana (classical Spanish dance), Character, Variations, Choreography, Luigi Jazz, Yoga.

Equipment for Progressing Ballet Technique
SWBT will provide some equipment for this class but dancers in levels 3 and 4 will need to bring the following:

  • Yoga mat
  • Exercise ball (when you sit on the ball your knees should be bent at a 90-degree angle and your thighs should be parallel with the floor)
    Height under 4’8”, recommend a 45 cm ball
    Height 4’8” to 5’3”, recommend a 55 cm ball
    Height 5’4” to 5’10”, recommend a 65 cm ball
  • Soft stability ball, pilates soft ball, or soft toy ball (about 9” diameter or 22” circumference)

ABT® National Training Curriculum

Southwest Ballet Theatre is proud to include the AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE® National Training Curriculum, a breakthrough 9 level program that combines high quality artistic training with the basics of dancer health and child development. The ABT® National Training Curriculum consists of a comprehensive set of age appropriate, outcome-based guidelines to provide the highest quality ballet training to dance students of all ages and skill levels. Level 1 through Level 5 will be taught by ABT® Certified Teacher, Tasha Stramecki, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 5 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum.
