Classes Run August 10, 2026 – May 15, 2027

Southwest Ballet Theatre is pleased to offer midday classes to homeschool students. Students will learn in a positive, nurturing, and developmentally sound environment. We encourage dancers to also consider adding afternoon classes to accelerate their training; the full schedule can be found here. Families may utilize their Empowerment Scholarship Accounts for payment.

Preprimary Ballet focuses on creative movement and the magic of ballet. This class is for three and four year-olds and provides a nurturing environment which fosters the child’s imagination; cultivates musicality, coordination, balance, strength, attention skills, and basic movement vocabulary; and develops early ballet technique.

The Primary levels are designed to introduce or continue the study of creative movement concepts and early ballet technique. Classes offer a nurturing environment and feature engaging music and movement exercises. Primary level students will develop the focus and listening skills needed to thrive in a classroom setting. The barre will not be utilized during this phase of development to aid the dancer in cultivating balance, strength, coordination, and proprioceptive skills.

Level 1 Ballet is a formal introduction to classical ballet technique. This class is for dancers ages eight and above. Students engage in ballet vocabulary, theory, and kinesthetic principles; learn to use their bodies correctly to prevent injury; and build strength, stamina, coordination, discipline, and grace.

Enrichment 1 is a beginning Jazz class for dancers ages eight and above that develops skills in coordination, flexibility, core strength, strong lines, and musicality while encouraging creative expression through movement. Class will consist of an energetic warm-up followed by a series of combinations focusing on skills such as jumps, turns, and basic movement patterns.

Level 2 Ballet is ideal for students with some past dance experience. This is a full length ballet class (1.5 hours) that includes complete barre exercises and center exercises that build on coordination and enhance technique established at prior levels.

All students may participate in the year end Showcase. We encourage Level 1 and 2 dancers to audition for The Nutcracker and the spring ballet performance. For additional information on the performance company and auditioning, please visit our FAQ page.

For teen recreational ballet classes see Preteen and Young Teen Recreational Classes and Adult and Teen Recreational Classes on our Class Information page.
